Franchise is the key term at the box office this weekend. We’re seeing and will be seeing a lot of the big franchise movies hitting the big screen.

Mattie Whittier, played by Amandla Stenberg, is a teen who is unable to leave her home. Allergic to practically everything, her life is books, her mom and her nurse. But her life dramatically changes when the boy next door becomes a close friend. She soon decides she isn’t living life to the fullest and ventures off on an adventure that could mean risking her own life. Everything, Everything is rated PG-13.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid story returns as the Heffley family heads to Meemaw’s ninetieth birthday party. The vacation goes a little off-course as Greg has other ideas. The franchise returns with an entirely new cast, but the same crazy shenanigans. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul is rated PG.

And director Ridley Scott is bringing back his iconic franchise. Alien: Covenant is the sixth installment in the series. After being thrown off their mission, the crew aboard the spaceship Covenant finds themselves in a world similar to planet Earth – an uncharted paradise they soon discover is anything but a wonderland. Alien: Covenant is rated R.

Alien: Covenant has grossed $4.2 million in sales from Thursday sales. It is expected to draw more than $40 million in Friday sales across the country – putting it in league with Mad Max: Fury Road in terms of sales.
