The September 11th attacks rocked United States soil 16 years ago.

First responders have been honored every year since then in Abilene.

The VFW Post 6873 cooked breakfast for first responders.

They've been doing it every year since the attack.

Volunteers began prepping at 5 a.m.

"It gives us a great pleasure and honor to cook for the first responders, because they're the guys out there that's trying to protect our society, our community," veteran Melvin Harper said.

The volunteers also delivered over 50 meals to those who had to work Monday morning.
