In Brownwood a volleyball team isn't playing for a win, but for a student that was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Seth Moreno is a 7th grader at Brownwood Middle School.

Brownwood ISD said he's recently undergone surgery and is recovering at Cook's Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.

School staff said he was diagnosed with a brain tumor recently, that has affected his speech and motor abilities.

The volleyball team is raising money for him by selling shirts as well as collecting donations.

"If you were in this situation you would want someone to help you out and you would want someone to be there for you if you were going through all this pain," volleyball player Raylee Moseley said.

"So we're just all trying to help him out, you know, by raising money so that it's a little bit less expensive,” teammate Gracie Boswell added.

The athletic coordinator is glad the team has taken on the task.

"September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and we currently have 6 students from Brownwood ISD Middle School up to high school that have been through childhood cancers," Kendi Skelton said.

They'll be playing a 'Digging for a Cause' game on October 5th.
