Every morning, Jasmine Murphy is kicking, boxing, lifting weights and doing pushups. She’s on a mission to get fit and healthy.

“I suffered a few close, personal deaths, and I realized that I was taking my health for granted.”

When Murphy began working out, she weighed 618 pounds. With daily exercise, she’s already dropped 124 pounds.

“It’s been challenging, but it’s been good. It’s been one of the most difficult things that I’ve had to do, but it’s one of the most rewarding too.”

Murphy shares her fitness journey on social media. She says the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.

“I noticed in sharing my journey that so many people were reaching out to me, saying they had never seen anybody of our size doing the things that I was doing and it made them feel empowered to take control of their lives.”

Murphy’s trainer – who cuts her no slack – says he hopes viewers will be inspired by her determination.

“I want them to see that anybody can do it. Jasmine says it all the time: anybody can be an athlete, no matter what size you are,” Terrence McDuffy said.

“I want people to know there is strength in everyone, and you have to find your strong. Starting is the biggest obstacle and if you can start, there is no stopping you,” Murphy said.

Murphy wants to continue dropping the weight. She wants to go down to about 150.

“I’ve watched her journey for the last year-and-a-half. If she can do it, I know I can do it. She’s amazing.”

“That is awesome. That is why everyone is out here. You can see that people are wearing these t-shirts that say ‘Becoming Devine,’ ‘Becoming Erin,’ ‘Becoming Brandon,’ ‘Becoming Jay.’ What does it mean?”

“It embodies my journey to becoming myself, finding the real woman that I am. And in Sanskrit, ‘J’ means victorious,” Murphy said.
