People in the City of Abilene had been falling victim to people stealing their credit card information. But the police department is equipped with special fraud detectives to handle these cases.

Robert Romero, fraud detective, said, "If you steal somebody's social security number, somebody's name, date of birth and then in turn you use that information to get a credit card, get a loan; then yes that's a type of fraud."

Romero said people can best protect themselves by shredding unused documents that contain personal information, don't leave personal or banking information in places that are easily accessible to thieves.
