More airlines could be on the horizon for the Abilene Regional Airport.

City of Abilene staff said that it's something that's been talked about for years.

Now, the airport has the person needed to make this happen.

Thursday, the city council approved investing in an air services consultant.

This will cost over $64,000 a year.

Abilene's director of transportation, Don Green, said the economy is sky rocketing.

Green said this makes the airport more marketable.

This new project could potentially mean flights that go to places other than Dallas, Fort Worth.

Currently, American Airlines is the sole provider at the airport.
