The City of Brownwood is doing some major housecleaning.

This is all in an effort to raise the housing market value and make Brownwood a nicer place to live.

Nearly 50 homes last year were demolished because they didn’t meet codes. A lot of these homes were in such despair that they weren’t even suitable for humans to live in. Many of these homes also were hotbeds for illegal behavior; two murders even occurring at one.

The City of Brownwood said once these homes are demolished the owners can rebuild a newer home in its place, helping bring beauty back to the neighborhood and the city.

The city also said that with the eradicating of these homes they are hopeful certain crimes slow down.

The city said they are demolishing at least five to six more during this fiscal year.

Brownwood city officials said they are confident this will bring life back to their home.
