A nutrient in olive oil has the potential to help prevent cancer-causing genes from working in cells.

Oleic acid is the primary ingredient in olive oil and is known as a fatty acid.

Researchers analyzed the effects of it on a brain cell molecule known to suppress tumor formation, finding it prevents a cell protein known as MSI-2 from halting production of the tumor-suppressing molecule in the brain.

These results suggest there may be a possible target for therapy.
