According to the Abilene Police Department, they will start enforcing traffic violations in school zones beginning this week.

APD wants citizens to know that officers will be patrolling school zones looking for several violations including, but not limited to, using electronic devices such as cell phones for texting, speeding, parking violations and failing to yield right of way at crosswalks.

"A driver’s main focus while behind the wheel should remain on the road and watching for pedestrians and bicycles," according to the City of Abilene.

Officers will rotate to the various school zones both in the morning, before the start of school and when school lets out for the next few weeks.
