ABILENE, TX — A new Abilene sports complex is back on city council’s radar after two years.
In March of 2016, the Abilene City Council authorized an agreement with the Abilene Youth Sports Authority (AYSA) for the lease of real property and construction of a youth Sports Facility at Grover Nelson Park.
“The Abilene Youth Sports Authority, or AYSA, has been planning a multi-purpose complex for indoor basketball and indoor volleyball,” Director of Facilities Wayne Lisenbee said.
The City agreed to participate in the project, with contributions up to$1,670,000.
The City said it will aid in "site and civil improvements necessary to support the successful construction and operation of the sports venue."+
“Our design’s going to take you know, easily takes 3 to 6 months to do design and then construction will follow,” City Manager Robert Hanna said.
