The City of Abilene announced that Brenda Alexander will immediately serve as the new director of human resources after serving as interim director for administrative services since June 2017.

City Manager Robert Hanna said he is very confident in the appointment of Alexander. “During the time that she has served as interim, I have grown increasingly impressed with her poise and professionalism,” he said. “She is a careful and analytical thinker, and I believe she will serve the citizens of Abilene well as the permanent director of human resources.”

Alexander formerly served as the Vice President for Finance for Hardin-Simmons University. Alexander’s professional experience includes several years leading offices of human resources, payroll, employee benefits and risk management, according to a City press release.

Alexander has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Texas A&M University. Alexander is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, a former practicing CPA, a member of the Texas Society of CPA’s, a former accreditation compliance evaluator of colleges and universities and has served on numerous boards and committees, according to a City press release.

“The City’s human resources department is a dedicated group of professionals who provide an important service to the citizens of Abilene,” said Alexander. “I am very honored and excited to be chosen to lead them as the director of human resources.”

Alexander’s appointment comes after Ronnie Kidd’s, former director of administrative services, retirement in June of 2017.
