According to the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD), on May 19 at Ron Jackson Juvenile Correctional Facility, a 13-year-old in the facility's boys' youthful offender program attempted suicide by tying a ligature around his neck, restricting his air passages.

Staff responded quickly, providing CPR until medical assistance arrived.

The teen was taken to Brownwood Regional Medical Center, then transferred to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.

He did not regain consciousness and died on May 31.

Concurrent administrative and criminal investigations are being conducted by TJJD's Administrative Investigations Division and the Office of the Inspector General respectively.
