A 48-year-old Ovalo man died from injuries sustained in an early morning crash.

Ronald Wesley Vaughn was traveling north of Winter's Freeway at around 5:27 a.m. on Thursday, June 22. As he approached the North 10th overpass, his 2007 Chevrolet Silvarado truck hit the guard rail, causing it to flip over the rail and eventually come to rest on its roof in the median between the north and southbound lanes.

Vaughn suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Northbound traffic was diverted for a short time for crews to work the scene.

Fox 15 caught up with one woman at the scene, who had pulled her car around to try to help.

“We ran up to the car, and I noticed that there was a man inside so…I knocked on the glass, trying to see if I could get a response out of anybody. And I don’t believe he was conscious at the time. My buddy got on the phone and immediately called 9-1-1,” Jay Albarado said.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation into the cause continues.
