ABILENE, Texas – Most City of Abilene offices and community service centers will be closed on Monday, January 1, 2018 in observance of the New Year’s Day holidays with the exception of those providing life safety services such as fire and police protection.

The Abilene Animal Shelter will be closed Monday, Jan. 1. Citizens with an Animal Control emergency may call the Abilene Police Department at 673-8331 and an Animal Services Officer will be available to respond. The animal shelter will open again on Tuesday, January 2 and resume its regular business hours from 10:30 AM to 6 PM.

The Solid Waste Services Division offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 1. There will be residential and commercial pick up on Monday. Abilene Brush Center will also be closed Monday but will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, January 2. Solid Waste Services will resume all normal operations Tuesday, January 2.

CityLink Transit will run regular hours on Saturday, Dec. 30, bus service will run until 6:00 PM and Evening Paratransit Service until Midnight. CityLink Transit will be closed Monday, Jan. 1. Regularly scheduled services will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Municipal Court will also be closed Monday, Jan 1. All citations due on that day will be due on Tuesday, Jan. 1 with no penalty. To make payments any time online, visit the Municipal Court page on the City’s website.

The South branch of the Abilene Public Library, located in the Mall of Abilene, will be open regular hours on on Sunday, Dec. 31 and 10AM to 6PM on Monday, Jan. 1. The Main and Mockingbird branches of the Abilene Public Library locations will be closed all day Sunday, Dec. 31 and Monday, Jan. 1.

The Abilene Zoo is closed on Monday, Jan. 1, New Year’s Day, and will resume regular hours on Tuesday, January 2, from 9 AM to 5 PM, with last admission being at 4 PM.

City facilities that will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 1 include: City Hall, Health Department, Abilene Convention Center Offices, the Development Corporation of Abilene, the Airport Administration Office and City Recreation and Senior Citizen Centers.

The Water Services Center, 701 E. Hwy. 80, will be closed for business at 4:00 PM on Saturday, Dec. 30 and reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2 for regular business hours at 8:00 AM. Citizens may also call the Water Service Center’s emergency hotline, 676-6000, for water and sewer emergencies. This hotline is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
