ABILENE, TX -- Myller Royals will graduate from Cooper High School at the end of the semester and enroll at Texas Tech University for the spring semester. Royals will play football for the Red Raiders. He said he will be studying in business with the hope of transitioning in the future to a career in fashion. He will leave Cooper as the all-time career leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Here's the transcript of our conversation with him:
The air attack in Lubbock just got a little bit more dangerous with this guy, Myller Royals, committed to Texas Tech over the weekend. Myller, congratulations first of all on the big announcement, but when was it you knew that this place was going to be your new home?
Myller Royals, Cooper Cougars Senior Wide Receiver, said, "I had went down there to watch them play TCU. I just loved the vibe that I felt up there. And I felt like that just had to be the place for me."
Was being close to your family important to you?
"Very important. I have a bunch of grandparents, cousins, uncles, aunts. To watch me play college football has always been their dream. They love watching me play sports. So, having that in the back of my mind always helped me decide on which school I wanted to go to." Royals said.
One thing a lot of college freshmen struggle with is the laundry. So, do you know how to do your laundry or do you plan on coming home to have Momma Royals do it all?
"Actually, I started to do my own laundry maybe about 6 months ago. Like, in the past month my mom has been getting a little sad because I'm going to college and everything. So she has been trying to help me with my laundry. I was like, it took me 17 years to finally start doing my laundry and when I officially start, she wants to start helping me with it. So I never got that, but I actually do know how to do my own laundry surprisingly." Royals said.
You're not going to have a situation where a white turns out pink?
"No sir. I've done that a couple of times. I've learned from experience. So, we should be good from here." Royals said.
Well you're a person that is very proud of your fashion and you said you want to eventually go into fashion, but Kliff is also a guy that's styling pretty well. So, who do you think is the best dresser. You or him. I'm not trying to get you in trouble just yet.
"I like what he does with his suits and everything. He always has the little tie to match his shoes and everything. They all go together. But I feel like I'm a pretty good dresser as well. So, I don't know. We'd have to compare a few outfits together to get that one." Royals said.
Not only is Kliff a good dresser, but we've seen him as a dancer. So between you and him, who do you think is the better dancer?
"He might have me on the dancing part. My rhythm isn't so much there, but if we have did have a singing contest, I feel like I could get him in that though." Royals said.
What's the style you're going for?
"Rap." Royals said.
So if we're doing a rap off or a freestyle off, you think you could get him?
"Yeah. Yes sir. I could get him."
