On Sunday, Aug. 13, at 1:12 p.m., a freight liner suffered from a blowout enabling it to break through the median and travel into oncoming traffic, hitting another vehicle causing a fatality on Interstate 20.

The 2011 freight liner towing a trailer suffered from a blow out while traveling westbound in the outside lane. This caused the vehicle to jack knife, breaking through cable wiring that separates the median.

At that time, the freight liner struck the 1999 BMW. After the freight liner struck the BMW, it veered back into the median, where it came to rest, blocking the westbound lanes of I-20.

The BMW went off the roadway and into the bar ditch.

The driver of the BMW was identified as Kimberly Carrillo, 46, of El Paso, TX. Carrillo was pronounced dead at Hendrick Medial Center.

Both parties were wearing their seatbelt.

The driver of the freight liner, 42, from Georgia was reported to have no injuries.

The crash is still under investigation, according to the Department of Public Safety's press release.
