Bees cause problems for residents

Abilene first responders handled a bee attack.

They are house guests many don’t want on their door step--bees.

Wednesday Abilene Police received a call that bees had attacked multiple people.

They shared that call with Fox 15.

The caller said 5 or 6 people had been stung.

The Abilene Fire Department said they responded to the call because it was a dangerous situation.

“The fire department will typically respond whenever someone is actually, aggressively being attacked and being stung by a swarm of bees,” Captain Jeremy Williams said.

Williams said to take shelter in a home or car if you are being attacked by aggressive bees.

“If they’re more than a swarm and kind of a big ball, the best thing to do is to avoid that as best as you can,” Williams said.

He also said you can phone the Taylor County Extension Office.

They’ll get you in touch with local beekeepers who can remove them from your home.

It’s also important to protect yourself when fleeing the situation.

“Whenever you’re running away, take the collar of your t-shirt and lift it up and cover the bridge of your nose so that way it protects your nose and your mouth,” Williams said.
