A blind man graduated from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.

HOUSTON - Proving persistence and perseverance pay off, this weekend a blind man graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.

Daniel Vaughn proudly attended his hooding ceremony on Saturday.

Vaughn lost his eyesight at the age of 23 after developing a brain tumor and having to undergo surgery to remove it. He went on to have six other surgeries after losing his sight.

But despite the setback, Vaugh decided to press on and fulfill his dream of attending law school – a dream made possible with the help of his family and girlfriend.

“Law school has changed me in the sense that I now have the tools to help others.”

Vaughn says his mother and girlfriend helped him study. Both women served as his driver, reader and scribe.

Their help allowed him to graduate only a year later than expected.
