Blood donation shortage due to flu

Blood shortage in Abilene

ABILENE, TX - The need for blood donations in the big country has increased and the flu has not helped the situation.

The Meek Blood Center is currently seeking donors or all blood types since there has been a shortage in Abilene.

More people have the flu other local blood centers are in the same state of need now it's up to the community to step forward and get the word out.

Frances Baker blood recruiter says, " we have noticed a tremendous decrease in our numbers both in the communities and here in Abilene.... It's not that flu patients need blood transfusions, it's just that we don't have the donors and yet the usage of blood doesn't decrease, we still have needs every day for premature babies, trauma patients, surgical patients, cancer patients."

There will be a blood drive tomorrow in Sweetwater at the lion
s club building from 11am to 6 pm or you can stop by any of the two Meek centers in Abilene to help save a life.
