ABILENE, TX - Dear students, faculty and staff,
Last week, while ACU was closed for Christmas, two unauthorized extremist flyers were posted on campus. These two flyers were taped to the kiosk in front of the Campus Center without permission and in violation of ACU policy. Before being removed, they were photographed and shared via social media. This propaganda is similar to what other university campuses across the state have encountered and are believed to be the actions of individuals outside those universities.
ACUPD will continue to investigate the situation to determine what occured in order to resolve the matter. We also have notified and involved appropriate university officials who will take further action if it is determined who posted the flyer. If you have information about these flyers or who placed them, please contact ACUPD.
I cannot emphasize strongly enough that this kind of message has no place on our campus or on behalf of ACU. As we prepare to return to campus, I want to remind us that we are called to be a place where everyone in our community sees themselves as an integral part of what God is doing through ACU, while offering new opportunities for spiritual, academic and social growth. As a Christ-centered, relational community, we are uniquely equipped and called to be a unified body that affirms and celebrates distinctions, while eliminating division. We must hold ourselves to the core values we have as a university.
If you have other concerns, see ACU’s anti-harassment policy, as well as information about how to contact officials in Student Life.
