HOUSTON - One Texas health department says it is already monitoring specific areas for mosquito activity.
Houston officials confirmed six women who recently gave birth are infected with the Zika virus. The cases happened months ago, but just recently were confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Nikki Alvarez has a baby girl, and last year when she was pregnant, she was very concerned. She says she will be taking extra precautions this summer, just like she did last year.
“As the summer months approach, the dry weather will help dry up, but the recent rains that were unexpected for this time – so stay vigilant. That’s the message.”
Health officials say to keep protected, use bug spray, wear long sleeves and dump anything in your yard where water can collect.
