ABILENE, TX - Wednesday, the Landmarks Commission had a meeting to set guidelines for the historic landmarks and buildings in Abilene.
The City of Abilene has never had set guidelines for the historic landmarks and properties.
But with so many buildings dating back several centuries the city wanted to take a look back at the landmarks that make Abilene what it is today.
Duane Hall, a Historic Preservation Officer said, “It's good to have written guidelines so everyone is sort of looking at a historic through the same lens through the same guidelines.”
These guidelines should be decided on by Wednesday and then further inspection into the historic list will be done.
Duane said that many things will be deciding factors on whether or not a building is labeled historic;
the outer facade, the date the building was built and the stories of the building.
Once the guidelines are drawn buildings and landmarks could be added or taken away.
