Confirmed Rabid Skunk in Early

EARLY, TX - The Early Police Department has been notified of a confirmed rabies case in a skunk that was sent in for testing after it was located in a yard in the 1000 Block of Sherry Lane in Early.

The skunk did have contact with a dog that has been quarantined and currently has no signs of infection.

Skunks are a common carrier of rabies. Any skunk seen that is showing signs of sickness should be reported to the local law enforcement.

A reminder that it is against the law to shoot a firearm within the city limits. Any sick animal should be reported to law enforcement so that appropriate action may be taken for the protection of the public and other animals in any case of a suspected rabid animal.

If the animal is to be sent off for testing, it must be taken to a veterinarian and the person requesting the test is responsible for any fees.
