ABILENE, TX - Friday was the final day for Abilene Police officer applications.
Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge says they have received 214 applications for this session.
Chief Standridge says many applicants are disqualified because of their criminal history or drug abuse records.
The process is both mentally and physically challenging.
He told Fox 15 he is crossing his fingers for this next group, Class 55.
“I’m going to remain confident that we can hire at least 20 qualified applicants out of more than 200 applications,” Chief Standridge said.
Class 54 will graduate their process in July and then undergo four months of field work.
Class 55 will start their sessions in January.
