ABILENE, TX - Multiple cities in the Big Country have issued water boil notices within the last couple months and some tested positive for E. Coli.
Health experts said they stress for consumers to not use the water to wash their hands or food. They also said there is likely other bacteria in the water systems with water boil notices besides E. Coli.
Dr. Joshua Gray at Hendrick Medical Center said, "For a water boil notice we do recommend boiling water for one minute, at a rolling boil, letting the water cool to room temperature, so it can be consumed. Also recommend washing hands with bottled water, drinking bottled water and using hand sanitizer for washing of hands."
Gray also said to use bottled water when making ice or to add to baby formula. He also advised to not shower or bathe in contaminated water.
