New law enforcement center and FOG ordinance were approved by City Council

ABILENE - Abilene's City Council approved the new law enforcement center for the 2018 capital improvement program.

This highlights remodeling the KMart to house police. The budget cost is $16.5 million.

Also, the fats, oils and grease, also known as FOG ordinance was approved. This means grease flowing into drains will soon come to a halt. 

At the morning meeting, city staff discussed sanitary sewage overflow which can be cause by FOG.

City Manager Robert Hanna said to years the sewage flowing into streets have been a problem. 

The ordinance was approved and will go on for a second reading and public hearing, which will be held Aug.10.
