ABILENE,TX - One in eight women across the United States will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
Doctors say early detection is key to fighting it and Abilene Regional Medical Center just unveiled an even better way to catch this deadly cancer.
"The main thing that has helped increase the instance of women living longer after the detection of breast cancer is earlier detection,” said Dr. Michael Montgomery with ARMC.
Dr. Montgomery said the new machine is a gamechanger in the field of breast cancer detection and it is much more precise and accurate.
"Instead of seeing the whole breast in one image it sees the breast in multiple images as it takes slices through the breast so that we can see one piece of the breast at a time,” said Montgomery.
Dr. Montgomery said getting checked by this machine and others with the same technologies could potentially save hundreds of thousands of women's lives.
