President Donald Trump put pen to paper on one of his biggest campaign promises.
The president signed the Veterans Choice Improvement Act on Wednesday. This legislation allows veterans to more easily go outside the VA system to seek medical care.
“The veterans have poured out their sweat and blood and tears for this country for so long, and it’s time that they are recognized and it’s time we now take care of them and take care of them properly,” President Trump said.
The choice program was put in place after a 2014 scandal over long wait times for vets at the VA medical center in Phoenix.
