ABILENE, TX - Nearly everyone has a social media account of some sort. And now Abilene Police are using those accounts to help solve crimes.
Whether it be a missing person, stolen object or a cold case; detectives said this new way of police work works.
Detective Erin Bennett with the Abilene Police Department said they have used social media on numerous occasions to solve cases.
She said the majority of the cases they use social media with involve the elderly and juvenile runaways.
She said while APD has close to 200 officers on staff they are not all on duty at one time so the extra help from the community really makes a difference.
