The Red Cross said these items are the best to donate

Multiple agencies from the Big Country have gone down to south Texas to help with the hurricane relief. The Texas A&M Forrest Service said even through the disaster, Texans are coming together to help.

ABILENE, TX - According to the Abilene Red Cross, it's too dangerous for civilians to travel to the Texas coast to help. Instead, they encourage people to donate.

The Red Cross said the best items to donate are non-perishable foods, clothes, toiletries, water but the most important donations are monetary.

Disaster Program Manager Nate Lester said, "The best way to donate is financially and you can do that through redcross.org."

Lester said with a $20 donation, they can make it stretch further than a civilian buying $20 worth of water. The Red Cross also has resources that allows them to target specific necessities.
