ABILENE, TX - TxDOT contractors on Monday, March 20, will begin work to replace the east- and westbound bridges and approaches on Interstate 20 over SH 351 in Abilene.
Contractors will begin setting concrete barriers on Monday in preparation for lane closures and traffic switches. Starting Monday, the westbound passing lane will be closed, followed by the eastbound passing lane later in the week. Additional lane closures and traffic switches should be expected as the project progresses. Drivers could experience brief delays during construction.
The $14,639,000 contract was awarded to Webber, LLC, of The Woodlands, Texas. This project also will include installation of metal beam guard fence, concrete pavement, illumination, signage, and pavement markings. The estimated completion date is Spring 2019.
TxDOT routinely inspects state-maintained bridges to ensure that design and structural requirements are met. Upon inspection of these bridges, it was determined that the structures were due to be replaced and upgraded to meet modern design standards.
