ABILENE, TX - Something Abilene drivers often face when there’s a downpour is lots of water on roadways.
Drivers told Fox 15 they've been avoiding areas with high water on their commute.
Some even said they’re sticking to the highway only.
The City of Abilene told Fox 15 that it's a topic of conversation for them year-round.
A State Farm agent shared some advice for those driving.
"Water can be a pretty powerful force that can separate your tire from the pavement. And when that happens you've got 3,500 pound car that kind of loses traction," Travis Scherwitz said.
He added that if there is any oil on the roads, gaining traction becomes even more of a slippery situation.
