78 Shih Tzu's rescued from animal hoarding in Eula, Tx.

One Shih Tzu confirmed deceased and 78 rescued from a home in Eula.

EULA, TX. — 78 Shih Tzu’s were found being hoarded in a home in Eula, Tx.

Tuesday, the Callahan County Sheriff’s department received several calls from neighbors regarding the property owner of the home off FM 603, next to Eula school district.

Upon arrival, the homeowner was roaming around. Sheriff Deputy, Rick Jowers says the woman didn't many any sense.

"We actually had to take her to OCEANS for MHMR evaluations,” says deputy Jowers.

The sheriff’s department then conducted a search Wednesday morning at the home where several Shih Tzu’s were found roaming around and some in cages.

"The smell would just about knock you out, it was that bad, I had to get out of there pretty quick, we had to get some hazmat,” says deputy Jowers.

With the help of the Rescue the Animals SPCA in Abilene, these furry creatures were tagged and pictured for documentation. They are being bathed, groomed and getting looked at by a veterinarian soon.

The homeowner is still under the care of OCEAN’s in Abilene for any sign of mental illness.

RA SPCA is waiting for the civil trial to take custody of the dogs, which are still under Callahan County.

Sadly, one was found deceased during this rescue.
