Abilene business outgrows location

An Abilene business outgrew its shell and opened doors to a bigger location.

ABILENE, TX — An Abilene business outgrew its shell and opened doors to a bigger location.

“In the very beginning of all things we started out in my garage long time ago,” owner Jennifer Martinez said.

Martinez’s store ‘23 Junk Street’ offers a unique way to shop.

It went from a small operation for friends and family, to a Pine Street building, to an Industrial Boulevard location.

“We were growing out of that building and it was time to move so now we are here on south 14th street,” Martinez said.

Her initial idea continued to expand.

“Coming from where we were, to coming to here it’s just unbelievable,” Martinez said.

Her hands-on technique keeps bringing in customers.

Staff help clients make and take items or just pick something out.

“We’re just overly excited to see the community’s response to what we’re doing,” Martinez said.

Over the years she’s learned that owning a business means learning.

“It’s being able to just sit back and let the journey kind of guide you versus trying to take control over it.”

Martinez said a successful business starts with taking the first step.

“If you have a passion go for it, and don’t be afraid of it,” Martinez said.
