Addition of temporary housing for patients from the Big Country

Two more homes are being added for temporary housing.

ABILENE, TX. — The nonprofit, Houses for Healing opened its doors to their first home at the beginning of 2018.

The homes are temporary housing for those who are undergoing medical difficulty and a place to stay in Abilene.

"The houses are intended to serve patients and their family members,” says President of Houses for Healing, Brian Massey.

It all started with one home, which took in residents from the Sweetwater County area. Then, right next to it, the veteran home came into service.

Every house costs about $43,000. Local churches adopt a house by raising the funds and building it themselves.

"Every time someone comes into the house we intentionally try to get to know them, we want to be their friends and be there for them as they walk through this hardship of life,” says Massey.

The goal is to have 20 houses that will each serve a county from the Big Country.
