ABILENE — The Abilene Police Department responded to more than 40 weather-related crashes before 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to an email from the department.

Of those calls, at least 15 were considered major crashes. The APD also responded to other weather-related calls for service.

"Conditions will likely get worse over night so APD urges folks to stay home if possible. Also folks driving home from work need to be very cautious." Rick Tomlin, APD Public Information Coordinator said. "Highways, overpasses and intersections are always more dangerous. Drivers need to be careful and allow plenty of distance to stop."
