Summer is quickly approaching, and some things are changing for Abilene parks.

Several were approved at Thursday’s City Council meeting.

Abilene City Council approved changing the entry fee at Adventure Cove.

Adult admission will go from $6.50 to $7.

“We were asked to better be able to have cost recovery and just this 50 cents change will go a long ways in being able to do that,” Lesli Andrews said.

Another change will be a $20 fee for anyone wishing to use electrical outlets in city parks.

City Manager Robert Hanna said this will be useful for things like family outings and get togethers.

Robert Hanna said, "It's a park and if it's there I'd like for people to use it, but we still need to recover the costs of the electric they use."

Hanna estimates this will add between $10,000 to $15,000 in revenue.

This ordinance also calls for a $135 fee to any citizen who signs up to take the Shallow Water Lifeguarding Course.

And, the creation of ‘The Mayor’s Race’, with three admission prices.

This amendment is for fiscal years 2017 and 2018.
