Clyde CISD and first responders teaming up this summer

Clyde school administration is looking over their emergency plans alongside local first responders.

CLYDE, TX. — With school safety being the center of talk around the country and classed just a month away, a local school district is looking over their campus emergency plans.

"Whether that be an active shooter, a fire, a tornado, we just want to make sure we have some initial meetings outside of the school year," says Clyde chief of police, Robert Dalton.

What started off as a demonstration of CRASE, or civilian to active shooter events led to further discussion. Clyde CISD as well as the local first responders are teaming up this summer to look over the schools current emergency plan.

"It's very important that schools take that step to partner...just to make sure we're all on the same page and we understand everyone's role in a situation if a crisis occurs," says Clyde CISD superintendent, Kenny Berry.

The Clyde school administration is giving campus tours to the local first responders.

Other topics discussed included equipping the schools with tourniquets, providing an entrance key to first responders, as well as having a greater presence on campus.

"We'll have our officers doing directed patrols here at the school campuses, different times throughout the day," says chief Dalton.

Clyde school officials asked for advice over their current outline on their emergency plan, in hopes to better prepare for the upcoming school year.
