What started as a small grass fire quickly ripped through about 5 acres of land in North Abilene.

Abilene and Hawley fire crews responded to the blaze around midday near private road 343.

Luckily no homes caught on fire but multiple cars were destroyed.

One neighbor said she saw the fire from afar and called 911 when she went back outside the fire moved closer to her aunt's home.

Caregiver says, "Fire claims whatever is in its path. It's very unfortunate. Like for her, she's lucky I'm here with her. But the couple that own this house back here, it caught on fire."

The Abilene fire department says crews are still on scene putting out hotspots.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but no injuries were reported.
