Early officer recognition for saving a life

Radio host is making progress after officer saves his life.

EARLY. TX. — An incident that occurred in February has given one man a new opportunity with life.

"To be more appreciative for every moment, that's, that's what I've learned," says KSTA radio host, Joseph Haynes.

On February third, Joseph was heading to Brownwood to watch his sons band perform, but soon it all took a dark turn. He was accidentally dragged by a vehicle in the parking lot of Humphrey Pete's restaurant. The truck pinned his leg between the grill guard of the truck.

Thankfully everyone at the scene acted quickly, especially Early police officer Andre Smoot who was quick to put a tourniquet on his leg.

"Had he not had it handy we may have had a different outcome that night," says Joseph.

Joseph now has to use a prosthetic leg and says that he is making great progress.

Early police chief states the importance of officers keeping a tourniquet clipped on their person, especially for emergencies like this.

Officer Smoot was able to meet up with Joseph after the city of Early recognized his efforts. The Texas senate also gave recognition to Early officer through a proclamation.
