Last stops in west Texas before heading back home

Congressman Beto O'Rourke finishes his town hall tour in west Texas before heading back to El Paso.

SWEETWATER, TX. — Emerson College has the latest in the senate race, showing Congressman Beto O'Rourke falling behind Senator Ted Cruz by just one percent.

Traveling all over Texas, visiting all 254 counties, O'Rourke is happy to finish his tour of 34 days straight, back home in El Paso. He spends his 33rd day at a town hall in Sweetwater, Tx.

“I get to see my kids, get to pick them up from school get to be with them, get to go to my son’s baseball tournament so I'm really looking forward to it,” says Congressman Beto O’Rourke.

Being away from one’s family and on the road for so long, does take a toll on one.

"It's not always clear to them, why is dad for the better part of two years traveling the state not with us… I tell them that for them we want to make sure that we secure the best,” says O’Rourke.

Many citizens of Sweetwater were amazed over the turnout.

“The community itself, just they support each other and for them to show up like they did today here is huge it just shows who Sweetwater is,” says Sweetwater citizen, Michelle Steakley.

When asked about any upcoming debates against Senator Cruz, O’Rourke deputy campaign manager confirmed that a schedule was in the works.
