Local seniors receive help applying for college

COOL program helps local seniors through the college application process.

ABILENE, TX. — The Abilene Education Foundation has a program called COOL, or College Offers Opportunities for Life. This free program helps high school seniors with the process of furthering their education.

"From researching schools, registering for the SAT/ACT, doing their college applications and essays...you name it," says COOL program coordinator, Amanda Wiskow.

A number of students taking advantage of this program growing each year, there are now four COOL counselors at the local high schools.

"It started off very small with two college advisors and they were working with about a 100 students each," says Amanda.

Going on its 11th year of success, the program continues to help more and more seniors set their sights on college.

"We've helped students enroll in schools all over the united states. A lot of them stay here in Texas, but each year we have a student this year that is going to Yale," says Amanda.

The program's summer application camp is coming up on July 25th for these seniors. One can register online at aef.org. Space is limited ot the first 25 students who register.
