Making a life by serving others

Founder of Abilene Hope Haven pursued her passion of serving others.

ABILENE, TX. — Jackie Warmsley just turned 92 years-old Monday.

She is the founder of Abilene Hope Haven. A nonprofit with a mission to house those experiencing homelessness.

"How blessed I was and how poor some people were...something inside of you says I've got to do something about this," says Jackie.

Jackie was a social worker for many years before she established Hope Haven in 1992. "My daddy always said, working was the most important thing you can learn," she says.

From finding the perfect place to start her nonprofit, to talking to many over the need in the community Jackie knew it was her calling.

"It's something that people would say to me, I don't know how you do it...and I don't know how they keep from doing it," she says.

Jackie inspires those around her.

"Getting to read her story and the way everything developed I really connected with her. I see so much potential to really work towards ending homelessness in Abilene," says the nonprofit's new executive director, Katherine Bisson.
