Authorities apprehend Stephenville suspect with gun

Law enforcement was dispatched to 2606 CR 454 after a woman reported a man pointed a gun at her while she drove past his residence. The man was identified as Garrett Frey, 41. After 21 hours of searching for Frey, he surrendered outside his home.

On Oct. 10 around 5 p.m., law enforcement was dispatched to 2606 CR 454 about a person with a gun. A woman called police after she reported a man pointed a gun at her while driving past his property.

This property had a truck and barn on it that looked vandalized with spray paint, which drew in people to look at.

Erath County deputies arrested the suspect after he fled on foot and then barricaded himself in his home for 21 hours.

Units responded to the area and made contact with the suspect who was later identified as Garrett Paul Frey, 41. At this time, Frey fled on foot into a wooded area.

Deputies and officers searched Frey's residence for him and wasn't located. It was determined that deputies had been at the residence earlier in the day.

While searching the property, officials received word of Frey crossing over on FM 914. At that time, the road was shut down and additional units were called to search a larger area.

The Department of Public Safety Air Support then arrived to assist the search from the air while deputies searched on the ground.

Officials did learn that Frey had a warrant for his arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Earth County deputies, Stephenville Police Department, DPS troopers, Regional SWAT and Somervell County deputies all assisted with the investigation.

After 21 hours, Frey surrendered to law enforcement about 2 p.m. on Oct. 11. Frey was booked in Erath County Jail and was charged with aggravated assault.
