Strawn Greyhounds competing for a State Title

The Greyhounds are on the path to another appearance in the 6-man Division-2 State Championship. Here's a preview of the matchup.

It's a moment you dream of.

"I'm just really excited. The team's really excited too." Gavin Duncan said. "Something we haven't done in a while."

"We just wanted us to be in there. It's going to be a lifetime experience." Zavion Winegeart said.

Hundreds of schools aspire to play for a state title. Strawn is one of a hand full that achieve it.

"You either do it or you don't." Winegeart said.

"You either go in there and play lights out or go in there scared like a deer in the headlights." Duncan said.

Of course, the goal isn't to get to the championship. It's to bring the state title home.

"It'd be crazy. It would mean a lot." Duncan said.

"I would be really proud. Go out with a bang." Winegeart said

Coach Lee has infused a rich history of winning at Strawn.

"They understand what it takes and it reminds me of those teams we've had in the past." Dewaine Lee, Strawn head coach, said.

"We won state in 2008. I went to that state game because my brother played. It'd be good to bring another ring to the family." Winegeart said.

Strawn has the offensive fire power to go with a stout defense. But, Balmorhea stands in the way.

"They're a very good team." Lee said.

"They're going to be tough." Winegeart said.

"They've been to state before." Duncan said.

"They're very similar to us." Lee said.

"I think we can do it. I think we can matchup." Winegeart said.

It's a clash between two state powers, for a title on the line.

Kickoff for this game is at 2:00 pm on Wednesday. Follow us on twitter @TheWestTexasScoreboard and at Facebook for updates.
