ABILENE, Texas — Officers with Abilene Police Department arrested two people who fled from a traffic stop in a stolen car Thursday afternoon.
APD Street Crimes agents saw a vehicle reported stolen out of Navarro County, driving in southwest Abilene and requested assistance from a patrol officer. When the patrol officer tried to conduct a high-risk stop, the driver fled the scene.
A pursuit started with the driver refusing to stop, but was terminated on Buffalo Gap Road because police say the driver was driving erratically, reaching speeds up to 70 mph.
The stolen vehicle was then involved in a crash on Buffalo Gap Road and Antilley Road, where both the driver and the passenger ran away from the scene. The female passenger was arrested in a field located south of the crash. The male driver ran into a residential area and was not located by police immediately.
Sammantha Horton, 23, was arrested for evading detention, failure to identify and debit card abuse.
After a couple of hours, a citizen called police after seeing a suspicious male in their yard. David Pritchett, 28, was found hiding near the neighborhood where he was last seen.
Pritchett was arrested and charged with evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
