Many police departments sheriff's office and other law enforcement agencies here in the big country mourn the loss of officer David Sherrard from the Richardson police department who died in the line of duty.

The Merkle police department changed their cover photo on Facebook and posted please say a prayer for our brothers and sisters in Richardson, Texas.

Also the Brownwood police department posted please keep officer Sherrard's family and the Richardson police department in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

APD Chief Stan Standridge also shared his condolences.

Chief Standridge says, “My condolences go out to the Sherrard family and the Richardson Police Department for their loss. Tragically Texas has lead the nation in line of duty deaths for police officers. We have walked through this before. So I know what the Richardson Police Department is walking through right now as is the Sherrard family.” .

Chief Standridge is referring to the loss of APD officer Elise Ybarra who died in the line of duty last year.

The man that shot officer Sherrard 26-year-old Brandon Mccall a licensed insurance agent in New Jersey is in custody.

His top charge is for capital murder for killing officer David Sherrard and another person during a shootout Wednesday is now facing multiple charges.

The other man killed was 30-year-old Rane Gamez who lived in the apartment that McCall barricaded himself in for hours.

Richardson's police chief says Sherrard is the first officer to be killed in the line of duty in the department's history and he will be greatly missed.
