Years spent making mats out of bags for the homeless

ABILENE, TX. — For more than two years, plastic bags have been used to make mats for the homeless by a group of women.

"They do this being thankful that they were rescued and to not payback, but to help others," says eternal threads volunteer, Judy Ingram.

This group of ladies were rescued by the international refugee commission from a Bhutan refugee camp that borders Nepal.

They gather every week with a group of volunteers from the non-profit, eternal threads, to make these mats that are distributed for various organizations.

"We pick them up at their apartment, and bring them over, and we work a couple of hours here. They bring the bags in, get everything fixed up, they take it home and they do all the work at home on their own," says Judy.

Each mat takes about 700 plastic bags and countless hours to make.
