HAWLEY, TX — The Texas A&M Forest Service confirms with FOX 15 1,000-acres have been burned in parts of Jones County. What is being dubbed the “335 Fire” near Hawley is 40-percent contained.
Officials tell us that FM 325 and FM 348 remained closed as fire crews from across the Big Country work to contain the fire.
One structure was destroyed, but officials cannot say what that structure was. They also report no injuries although folks in Hawley and Nugent were asked to evacuate.
The grass fire was reported to fire officials after 2:15 Friday afternoon. Peak wind gusts exceeded 50 miles per hour. The National Weather Service continues the Red Flag Warning for the Big Country through 10 p.m. Friday night.
