An approaching cold front from the northwest will move across the Big Country later this evening giving many of us the chance for showers and thunderstorms.
Afternoon highs and increased moisture levels will aid in the development of showers and storms overnight despite the lack of daytime heating which would add to the atmospheric instability.
As of now, we can expect isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms ahead of the front and a few isolated ones behind the boundary as it passes. For the folks living in the far northeastern parts of the Big Country -- that's where we are monitoring the threat for severe weather.
The Storm Prediction Center has much of the area under a marginal to slight risk of severe weather overnight. The main threats appear to be dangerous lightning, gusty winds and a significant hail threat. Meanwhile, Knox County is now under a TORNADO WATCH until 10:00 PM CDT as we monitor the threat for isolated tornadoes along the frontal boundary.
This will be a fast-moving front, so as we wake up early Sunday -- temperatures will be between 15°-20° cooler than we were today.
